BAGGAGE DROP - WEEK 1
“THE MANGER & MY BAGGAGE”
December 20th, 2009 Christmas Service
Gary Baldus – Lead Pastor
4 FACTS ABOUT BAGGAGE…
1. OUR BAGGAGE HAS BEEN __________________.
Luke 5:5-9 One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, He asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”
2. WE TRY TO HIDE IT FROM __________________.
Psalm 139 7-13- I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
3. LIFE IS ______________ TO CARRY SO MANY BAGS!
James 4:13-17- Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
4. I NEED TO GET RID OF MY BAGGAGE- ____________!
Romans 7:18-25- And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Revelation 21:5- He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"
Matthew 11:28- Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
John 16:33- I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
